Three schools in North-East region of Singapore to tap electricity generated from rooftop solar systems installed by Sunseap

Jun 1, 2021
Sunseap Group said today that three schools in the north-eastern part of Singapore have begun to tap electricity generated from rooftop solar systems it had installed at the end of April 2021.
The three schools are Horizon Primary School, Compassvale Primary School and Edgefield Primary School, and their rooftop solar systems will generate 397.44 kilowatts peak (kWp), 190.44 kWp and 389.16 kWp of energy, respectively. Combined, they are enough to power 297 four-room Housing & Development Board (HDB) flats.
The installations, which began in November 2020 are part of the fourth solar leasing tender awarded to Sunseap under the HDB's SolarNova programme (SolarNova 4) in 2019. Under the tender, Sunseap will install more than 170,000 solar panels across HDB blocks and government sites between 2020 and 2022.
Sunseap is currently working on the installation of rooftop solar systems at six other schools, namely Anderson Primary School, Kranji Secondary School, Catholic High School (Primary), Methodist Girls' School (Primary and Secondary) and Tampines Primary School.
As part of efforts to tackle climate change, Singapore aims to halve its 2030 peak greenhouse gas emissions by 2050, and to achieve net zero emissions "as soon as viable" in the second half of the century.
Mr Frank Phuan, co-founder and Chief Executive Officer of Sunseap, said: "Sunseap is pleased to help schools make the transition to renewable energy sources. Sustainability has become increasingly important and there is no better place to instil environmental consciousness in future generations than through schools.”
