Sunseap publishes inaugural sustainability report

October 19, 2021
Sunseap Group today published its inaugural 2020 Sustainability Report, highlighting significant progress toward its sustainability goals as well as various environmental, social and corporate governance initiatives.
In 2020, Sunseap generated more than 147,200 megawatt hours of solar electricity, enough to power more than 31,000 4-room public housing units in Singapore. Over 60,100 metric tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions were also avoided, according to the report.
Norman Yeo, Marketing Communication & Sustainability Manager of Sunseap Group, said: "Sunseap is at the frontline of Singapore's decarbonisation strategy and we strive to practice what we preach. We have significantly improved our emissions footprint by implementing an array of energy efficiency initiatives, such as converting all office buildings at our Singapore headquarters to operate on 100% clean solar-generated electricity."
He added: "We remain committed to building a more sustainable future in Singapore and overseas and will continue to improve our business and operations to deliver long-term, sustainable value to our stakeholders."
Sunseap's sustainability efforts are categorised into three pillars: sustainability, innovation and social impact. Its sustainability targets include:
• 25% reduction in per capita greenhouse gas emissions intensity by 2025.
• 90% recycling rate of raw materials used in production, scrapped photovoltaic modules and inverters by 2025.
• Adoption of technologies and innovations that progress towards a carbon neutral supply chain.
• Staying abreast of changing policies, carbon tax, regulations and standards set on renewable energy certificates.
• Zero legal infringements and corrupt practices as well as zero fatality rate.
• 100% of suppliers screened to meet Sunseap's social and environmental criteria.
To help meet these goals, Sunseap has formed a sustainability team comprising senior management and management staff who will work towards advancing sustainability within the Group.
Sunseap's sustainability report was prepared in accordance with the Global Reporting Initiative's Standards, which are the most established international sustainability reporting framework. While sustainability reporting is not mandatory in Singapore, Sunseap developed the report to be more transparent about its social and environmental impact.
