It's the end of one of the toughest years in modern history but we are glad to have come out of it stronger with the completion of many key milestones projects in 2020 and we look forward to building more exciting new decarbonising solutions in 2021.

Without much further ado, here are some key developments to look out for in 2021!

Energy Storage Systems (ESS) for 2021

With our first utility-scale energy storage system (ESS) installed at the end of 2020, we are hoping to build and install more ESS projects in 2021 which will not only help stabilise the energy grid but also helps complement the solar PV systems (if it is already installed at the users' premises) as the user can then choose to store solar energy produced during the day and utilise it at night and hence reducing its reliance on traditional energy sources via the grid. Thus this will help reduce the user's carbon footprint and help fight against climate change.

More Electric Vehicle (EV) Charging Stations for 2021

In the world of EVs, there has been commotion on the potential upside of batteries and EVs as demand is expected to surge within the next decade or so. This is due to increased global efforts to reduce carbon emissions, and increase reliance on cleaner energy. So much so that in Singapore's 2020 Budget that was released in February, Deputy Prime Minister Heng Swee Keat had introduced the following measures, aiming to phase out petrol/diesel vehicles.

1) Vehicular Emission Scheme which will give out rebates/surcharges based on emission levels.
2) An Early Adoption Incentive for EV adopters from 2021 to 2023, capping rebates at $20,000 per vehicle.
3) Revised Road Tax for EVs and some hybrid vehicles.

As a homegrown company, we, at Sunseap, hope to lead the charge in the region with the development of Charge+ (launched in 2020), the world's slimmest Alternating Current (AC) charger with dual charging points that has been specifically designed to fit in areas with densely limited space.

"The key point that really dictates whether Singaporeans will buy EVs or not, is whether the EV chargers are available at their doorstep... the peace of mind that there's overnight charging for the average driver in Singapore is very important." - CEO of Charge+, Mr. Goh Chee Kiong.

We hope that 2021 will be a year where we see more Charge+ chargers being deployed so as to help reduce our reliance on petrol/diesel powered vehicles and thus reducing our carbon footprint.

More Green Jobs for 2021: Come Join Us as Solar Technician/Solar Specialists

As Singapore's largest solar developer, we are looking to ramp up our local green sustainability workforce which we'd like to call them our Sustainability Heroes. And as such, we are looking to hire 300 locals (Singaporeans) to join us as Solar Technicians or Solar Specialists.

Despite the trying times of 2020, we hope that 2021 will be better for all of us as we strive to put more decarbonising solutions not only in Singapore but across Asia.

Lastly, wishing all of you the best in 2021 😄
